The Wooden Spoon Women have had a triumphant year both on and off the field and with the Dubai 7s in December, 2011 could prove to be the most successful year in the teams history.

Playing in a new kit that bore more of a resemblance to Wooden Spoon shirts of old with a return of the traditional home nations hoops, Wooden Spoon flew through their group stage only conceding two or three tries before reaching the knock out stages, where again they proved to be a class above with England International Rachael Burford proving to be the heartbeat of the side.

Ferocious in defence and audacious in attack the winning margin in the final was well deserved, yet what spoke it was the teams performance off the field that showed just why they deserve the plaudits coming there way.

Barely 10 minutes after winning the Middlesex trophy at Twickenham in front of a large crowd and thousands of people watching on TV, the team were seen milling amongst the crowd selling wristbands, lottery tickets and driving the brand to raise money for Wooden Spoon. Their tremendous efforts mirrored their idiom of the rest of the season, working hard both on and off the field.
