The Wales committee covers the whole of south Wales from Chepstow to Pembrokeshire, including the main coastal cities of Cardiff, Newport & Swansea & the valley areas, up to the Brecon Beacons.We currently comprise a group of 10 hard working volunteers from a range of backgrounds including legal, construction/property, finance/banking,sign language interpreter & former international referee.
Over the last 10 years or so, the region has helped to fund a variety of projects for disadvantaged children across south Wales, including sensory gardens, play areas, hydrotherapy pool & community rooms/facilities.
Our funding is all raised locally including 'clubhouses' at internationals, golf days, quiz nights & charity bike rides as well as charity lunches & dinners.

It is always a privilege to attend openings of projects funded by Wooden Spoon. All of them are a testimony to the rugby world's caring nature. That caring nature is seen in the staff and supporters of the organisations we support too, so when Scope asked us to contribute £20,000 to facilitate the building of the Wooden Spoon Suite at Lewis Martin Court, it was a double bonus.

First Wooden Spoon Valeride a Huge Success

A sunny Sunday morning in September - imagine how beautiful the Vale of Glamorgan looked with the sun glistening on the dewy hedgerows and the reflectors of 81 bicycles as they sped/'made their way' around the roads and lanes. These were the intrepid trailblazers who took part in the first 'Valeride' to be organised by the Wooden Spoon Wales; a 44 mile charity cycle ride starting and ending in the beautiful town of Cowbridge.

On the 16th August, Cathays Community Centre sparkled in the sun and homemade bunting fluttered in the breeze as the former British Lions, Wales and Cardiff star and President of Wooden Spoon in Wales, Bob Norster presented the plaque to staff and young people at Teenscheme who will use The Garden of Gorgeousness.

The world of rugby was shocked to hear the news of the death of Mervyn Davies, a staunch supporter of Wooden Spoon, at the age of 65. Sad irony that his death should coincide with a Welsh Grand Slam, with Mervyn himself being a Grand Slam captain.

When Pamela Young arrived in Qatar, she had already been involved in St David's Societies in other countries. She was surprised to find that Qatar, despite a healthy number of Welsh expats in residence, was without a Society. With 6 weeks to go before St David's day, there was no time to waste. A St David's day ball was organised - a chance to celebrate being Welsh and a perfect way to launch the society.

Four Welsh rugby fans stirred up support for Wooden Spoon by creating "The Longest Pass". Their novel idea saw them pass a rugby ball to each other for their entire journey from Cardiff to Paris the day before the France vs Wales clash on 24th February.
