A lovely sunny day greeted the 22 teams who had entered this years extravaganza at Knebworth Golf Club when the Spoon tradition of keeping fun in fundraising was well and truly upheld.

Wednesday 18th July saw the opening of the Wooden Spoon Outdoor Gymnasium at Roman Fields School in Hertfordshire, the honours being performed by Saracens star, Jamie George.

John Batters, the Chairman of Hertfordshire Region together with his wife Elke were both delighted and honoured to be invited to a TRACKS Autism reception at No 10, hosted by Samantha Cameron.

Some of you may have experienced the passionate talks on the Zulu Wars delivered by Rob Caskie at Mid-Herts golf Club some years ago.

Many grateful thanks to those who took part in the Wooden Spoon Annual Lottery during 2011.On Monday 12th December, fourteen tickets were drawn by Wooden Spoon's Trustees from over 16,000 returned, and the lucky winners have now been notified.

The staff and pupils at St Luke's School in Redbourn organised a quite wonderful opening for Hertfordshire's latest project, a £20,000 donation towards a new multisensory/interactive resource.

16 teams gathered at the well presented parkland course at Knebworth on August 30th to compete in the 3rd Golf Day of the year in Hertfordshire.

18th July saw the Hertfordshire Rugby Football Union hold their annual golf day at Mid Herts Golf Club with over 40 players taking part, and raising nearly £1,700 for Wooden Spoon.

On 18th May, 108 players battled wind and rain on the unique heath land course at Royston Golf Club, which was in beautiful condition even after the prolonged dry spell. The event raised over £3000, all of which will go into the Hertfordshire regional funds.

Enthusiastic fundraisers from TNT's Luton depot have been witnessing exactly how their efforts to raise money for Wooden Spoon, the children's charity of rugby, has helped children at Greenside Special School, Shephall Green, Stevenage in Herts.

Hertfordshire Wooden Spoon held an Old Time Music Hall by the Kimpton Players on 24th February at Kimpton Village Hall.It was a very successful evening raising over £1600 for Hertfordshire children, and enjoyed by the large audience and indeed by the Players themselves.

With more distance covered than all the passes in the entire 6 Nations Competition, Strutt & Parker are miles ahead!

The story to date...

The Letchworth RFC Dinner on 28th November was attended by 60 members and raised around £1200.

The Guest Speaker was Nigel (Ollie) Redman, who played with distinction with Bath, England, the Barbarians and the British Lions. He was introduced by the elequent Graham Walker of Letchworth Rugby Club, who also spoke at length.

Among the members and friends were a good number of Wooden Spoon members, including 3 wearing blazers, the material from which would have made 5!

Hertfordshire held their second regional golf day of the year when 19 teams tackled the wonderfully presented parkland course at Knebworth Golf Club on a fantastic late summers day. There was some really excellent golf with over half the teams beating the formatted par of 116 points. 2nd & 3rd teams each scored a quite magnificent 134 points but were pipped at the post by Chris Denza, Keith White, Tony Fowler & Andy Norton scoring a quite formidable 135. We hope they will take this form with them to the finals at Chepstow!

Hertfordshire RFU held its Annual Golf day for County Members on July 23rd 2010. For the last 9 years it has made Wooden Spoon it's benefitting charity, and has been organised by Ces Pool (a Past President of Herts. RFU) and other members of the Wooden Spoon Herts. Region Committee.

The team at The Fox at Willian are very proud to announce that they have raised over £5000 during the last 3 months with various challenging fundraising events in aid of the Wooden Spoon charity.

July 21st 2010 saw the opening of a Sensory Garden at Woolgrove School in Letchworth, with Saracens and England Counties Rugby player Will Fraser, cutting the ribbon. Following the proceedings and a great opening speech, Will then spent time getting to know some of the children.

The TRACKS Nursery in Stevenage celebrated the opening of a new creative garden on 12th July. The nursery provides a specialist setting for pre-school children in Hertfordshire aged 2 to 5, who are diagnosed with complex social communication disorders, including autistm.

The Hertfordshire Region of the Wooden Spoon Charity held their 8th annual Golf Day, at Royston Golf Club, on May 19th. 100 players took part and over £3000 were added to the Hertfordshire funds.

The Mayor of Stevenage joined World Cup star Richard Hill MBE in the latest project opening in Hertfordshire. Greenside is a special school for 114 pupils aged 2 to 19 years who have severe or profound learning difficulties and live in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire.

The provision of new fencing and gates for Lakeside School means safer play for all.

On September 4th, this Spoon region saw the opening of two projects to which it donated a total of almost £60,000.

On 23 January, he opened two of the latest Spoon projects on one day for Herts Spoon - at the Colnbrook School and another at St. Elizabeth's.

On 26th April, the children of the Lonsdale School in Stevenage were able to use a new facility provided for them by Wooden Spoon.
