Wooden Spoon in the Emirates was established in 2009 to capitalise on the significant expat community and strong rugby heritage in the region.
The committee, made up of a mix of long term spoon supporters that have relocated from the UK, regional event specialists as well as some new supporters, works together to deliver a range of fundraising events including gala dinners and golf days. Our three events to date have raised over £18,500 and welcomed a number of rugby legends including Jason Leonard, Gavin Hastings, Phil Vickery, Gareth Chilcott, Andy Irvine, Ian Robertson, Tom Shanklin and Colin Charvis.
Given the limited retired population in the Gulf and the transient expatriate population, the committee is always looking for new members to help out. If you feel you have some time and enthusiasm to offer, or would just like to hear about upcoming events, please contact Regional Chairman Robin Haddrill on robinhaddrill@hotmail.com

2013 will see the British & Irish Lions represent the best of Home Nations rugby as they tour Australia for the first time since 2001, and now Wooden Spoon can give you a chance to join the team as they head down under.
