Gavin was amongst fine company with fellow Lion Peter Wright as the main speaker. Peter who toured with the Lions on their famous tour to New Zealand in 1993 won 21 caps for Scotland after rising through the ranks of Lasswade and Boroughmuir.
Further entertainment was provided by local ex policeman and 'WAG of WAGS' Doug Duthie who wowed the crowd with his witty anecdotes and repartee. MC Peter Mitchell was also on top form, particularly during the raffle and auction. All contributed to an enjoyable evening and there were probably a few sore heads in the morning!
Jokes and japery aside the dinner raised a staggering £24,000 which will be spent on projects for underprivileged children in the Aberdeen area.
To date, the Aberdeen branch has spent £284,000 on a number of charitable projects, ranging from £50,000 for Camphill's "Wellbeing Suite" in Milltimber, £14,000 for OK2 on play equipment for physically challenged children in Duthie Park to £60,000 for the Archie campaign for the new Children's hospital A&E play area and £30,000 for Timber Kinder nursery extension in Seaton.
