Charitable Projects

Wooden Spoon organises its own fundraising initiatives, raising funds to spend where it is most needed. Spoon has distributed over £18 million to more than 500 national and local capital projects since 1983 enhancing the lives of more than 500,000 children and young people across the UK and Ireland.

Capital projects are projects that create an asset on completion and generally comprise bricks and mortar such as medical treatment and recovery centres, sports and activity areas, sensory rooms and gardens, playgrounds and hydrotherapy pools.

Since 2009 Spoon has increased its charitable work to include a range of operational projects designed to affect social change in our communities. To date Spoon has invested over £800,000 into Community projects to help 31,000 disadvantaged young people across UK and Ireland find inspiration, motivation and opportunities to gain achievement and success. 2012 brings with it a renewed challenge for Spoon and its community projects. As Spoon's knowledge and understanding of the Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being sector develops so must our community initiatives to ensure that our new programmes continue to meet the needs of the young people they are targeted towards. Spoon has taken the best of the last two years and has consulted widely to rebrand community projects as Game On.

Game On will see Wooden Spoon working with YMCA Training and the leading professional rugby bodies from both union and league in the British Isles to engage and recruit socially disadvantaged and disillusioned young people onto a unique education and training programme, with the ultimate goal of progressing young people onto full-time work or education.

All projects supported by Wooden Spoon vary greatly in size and nature but all fulfil Spoon's mission statement which is: "To enhance the quality and prospect of life for children and young people in the United Kingdom and Ireland who are disadvantaged physically, mentally or socially."

Spoon consistently has a significant number of ongoing capital grant and social community projects active across the UK and Ireland. For more information on either of these types of project please click on the relevant tab:
