The new play area forms part of that overall refurbishment work and is designed to meet the needs of a diverse school population. The Wooden Spoon funded play area comprises two pieces of inclusive equipment: a wheelchair swing and a roundabout that can be used both by wheelchair users and able bodied children, all situated within an impact resistant soft surface area.
HRH The Princess Royal is the Royal Patron of the Wooden Spoon charity, British and Irish rugby's children's charity founded in 1983 that is dedicated to helping underprivileged children and young people all over the UK and Ireland to live happier, richer lives. John Gibson of Firminger's Surveyors is the Wooden Spoon Regional Chairman who comments: "I am thrilled that Wooden Spoon has been able to support Regency High School with this significant donation, allowing the new play area to go ahead. Every penny that Wooden Spoon raises here in Worcestershire stays in the county, to be used for projects within our community. It is an honour for us all and an absolute delight for the school's children who are using it, that HRH The Princess Royal is coming to officially open this new play area."
Frank Steel, Head Teacher of Regency High School adds: "The pupils, parents and staff and I are all really excited by the prospect of having this equipment which will benefit all the pupils here at Regency High, and we are hugely grateful for the support of Wooden Spoon."
