Our Annual Ball is possibly one of the most talked about and attended events of its kind, comfortably accommodating not only private but also corporate entertaining, with many companies using the night as their Christmas bash. This year promises to be c'est bon with a spectacular array of entertainment to ensure it is as stunning as ever. After all how could it not be with the theme of Le Moulin Rouge - Oh la la!

Four International Women's Rugby players visited Disability Challengers this week as part of their community time during the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup which is currently being held at the Surrey Sports Park. The two Scottish and two Australian internationals had a tour of the playcentre in Guildford and joined in with some of the activities with the children.

Earlier in the year Dr Jenny Donald signed up for the "The Great Scottish Swim" in which upwards of 2000 swimmers would complete a mile course on Strathclyde Loch just outside Glasgow on the 21st August. During the build up to the day, Jenny raised money for Wooden Spoon (rugby's charity for disadvantaged children) through a variety of ways from sponsor forms through on-line donations to a raffle for a signed rugby ball by the Ulster squad.

The camp provides disadvantaged and disabled children from Shropshire and the West Midlands the opportunity to savour country life without television, computers etc., and to revert to outdoor activities and games.
Accommodation is proved in log cabins, and Spoon's project was to provide a concrete pathway to enable disabled and wheelchair users to have full use of the site and its facilities.

The recent passing of Andy Ripley at the age of 62 has left the world of rugby in a state of shock and sincere sadness, that such an athletic charismatic man should be lost to prostrate cancer at such a young age. A true legend on the field, winning 24 caps for England in the 70's as well as representing the British & Irish Lions on the 1974 tour to South Africa.

Strutt & Parker were proud to invite rugby ace Jason Leonard to kick off Strutt & Parker's fund raising activities on behalf of the children's rugby based charity - Wooden Spoon. Strutt & Parker's Senior Partner, Andy Martin announced the 'Strutt & Parker rugby ball challenge' which consists of a ball, signed by Leonard, moving from each of Strutt & Parker's 47 offices across the UK, raising money along the way. Officially, fund raising activities will start in September when the signed ball will begin its journey in London.

The evening of Tuesday 20th July saw the great celebration of our Ambassadors Summer Reception which was once again kindly hosted by The Lord Chadlington at the House of Lords. Ambassadors from the world of sport, industry and entertainment joined Spoon Community Rugby project partners, corporate and key supporters of the charity.

The Legends' Challenge Series moved into its second year with the "Ryder Cup of Rugby Golf" at Royal Birkdale on June 24th. After weeks of blazing sunshine the course was at its majestic best to welcome 10 teams representing Rugby League and 10 representing Rugby Union. Each team included a Legend of the appropriate code, to continue the friendly, but intense rivalry started with last year's hugely successful 20/20 Cricket Challenge at Pontblyddyn CC in Flintshire, north east Wales - Rugby Union one up in the Challenge Series!

Over 40 teams will be rising to the Four Peaks Challenge; one of the UK's most exhausting, exhilarating and rewarding challenges starting at Fort William on Thursday 1st July. A team of property consultants from the Carter Jonas Northern offices in Leeds, Harrogate and Bangor will be embarking on the challenge when they attempt to scale four mountains in 48 hours to raise funds for Wooden Spoon.
