HRH The Princess Royal opened the Wooden Spoon extension to the Red Balloon Learner Centre in Harrow, Middlesex, on 7th December 2011. Wooden Spoon Middlesex region donated £40,000 to Red Balloon for the construction of an extension to the front and rear of the Centre in Kenton Road.

November saw the opening of an outdoor learning and activity centre by BBC Radio Commentator, James Burridge at Westfield School, Buckinghamshire.

The staff and pupils at St Luke's School in Redbourn organised a quite wonderful opening for Hertfordshire's latest project, a £20,000 donation towards a new multisensory/interactive resource.

John Inverdale, President of Surrey Spoon and Honorary Life Member of Wooden Spoon, performed the opening ceremony of a new state-of-the art playground at The Ridgeway School on 8th November.

"A Perseid is a type of prolific and radiant meteor shower (pronounced Pur-say-id) and the school which was formerly named St Ann's has been renamed as they are blazing a trail of excellence in teaching and learning and their standards deserve nothing less."

On 20th April, former Leicester Tigers, England and British and Irish Lions player Tim Stimpson opened the Michael Whetstone Wooden Spoon Memorial Garden.

Children, staff, carers, governors, parents and Yorkshire Spoon members turned out in great numbers to see Wakefield Trinity Wildcat's player Glenn Morrison and son officially open the £15,000 sensory room on the 28th April.

The Wales committee were out in force on Wednesday April 13th at the opening of the Ashgrove School Sensory garden project.

On a cold and windswept day in the East Riding, Spoon committee members were invited to the "topping out" ceremony at the Hessle Rd church Hull on Monday 30th March. Yorkshire Spoon were delighted to commit £40,000 towards the provision of a Wooden Spoon Cafe that will soon be part of the new youth centre.
