Although I had been in the hotel business for many years, I had never ever experienced an event like the Ball. My wife, Denise, and I were simply blown away by the fun and brilliance of the magnificent theming - which has become a trademark of the event. Experiencing unusual acts and surprises at every turn is a joy, especially the pyrotechnic fireworks exploding out of every table flower centerpiece deliberately timed to go off on the final note of the song 'Simply the Best'.

Professionally, a company showing a wholehearted commitment to any charity, I feel, demonstrates a core value of understanding as to what is really important and matters in life. It should not just be a case of a company just fulfilling a corporate social responsibility (CSR) objective. Contributing positively to help make a difference to the disadvantaged has a positive, motivating affect on employees and customers alike. It also is there to act as a constant reminder of keeping things in perspective - there's always someone worse off you! Now I am with Halcyon Travel Collections, it is a thrill to connect with Spoon again- the entire team is fully behind the decision and looking forward to all being involved in some way.

From a personal capacity, seeing the fantastic results of the projects undertaken has been inspiring and over the years I have met some wonderful people and made lasting friendships. Whilst charities are quite rightly serious businesses these days, Spoon has always had a certain 'fun factor' in being involved. I am not someone who likes to be sold to but on this occasion I thank Peter for doing a brilliant sales job on me - coming straight from his heart!
