Quite apart from Ian's wonderful tales he also auctioned a number of items expertly and prised every available penny from a very receptive audience. All items were very generously donated by local companies with a special mention going to The Pipe and Glass Inn near Beverley who kindly donated dinner for six on their new private dining room.

The ever lovely Wildcat dolls did their job expertly under the watchful eye of Edward Jennings. They ran the raffle and signed up 39 new members - exceptional effort ladies! All of this wonderfully held together by the indefatigable Toastmaster Richard Strudwick.

Martin Corrie was the main speaker and he regaled us with stories of his two World Cup campaigns and his time as England Captain. It was an interesting insight and not a dwarf throwing evening in sight!

Once again our grateful thanks to Dickenson Dees who were our main sponsors for the 6th year and our favourite brewers Black Sheep who supplied us with a generous quantity of beer to help kick-start the evening.

The event should raise £15k plus the value of 39 new members so well done our local satellite committee led by Iain Leedham and Nick Scroggs. Same time same place (or maybe the race course) next year for another great Wooden Spoon evening of fun and fund-raising.
