The evening began with a canapé and drinks reception courtesy of Barefoot Wine, a welcome and thanks from Suzie Haworth, Senior Corporate Development Director for Wooden Spoon, followed by a speech from Tim Marlow about the works of Gilbert and George.
The London Pictures make up a collection of 292 pictures, the largest series ever created by the artists. In these 'LONDON PICTURES' Gilbert & George present their take on the volatile, violent and the tragedy that is the modern urban life in London. This amazing collection of pictures has been created from the sorting and classification by subject of nearly 4000 newspaper headline posters, stolen by the artists over 3 years. Within the townscape of the pictures, Gilbert & George appear to pass like ghosts, as though their spirits were haunting the very streets and buildings that these pictures describe.
Guests were able to view a further private viewing of an exhibition made up of various artists and their striking works, such as a rather remarkable piece by Raqib Shaw known as The sculpture Adam, Georg Baselitz was another exhibitor, with his piece called Seid bereit, immer bereitand Anselm Kiefer with his painting called Hebron.
It really was an extremely insightful evening and a lot of fun for all, we would like to say a very special thank you to Tim Marlow, BBC Arts Correspondent and Spoon Ambassador for hosting such an enjoyable evening and giving us the opportunity to view these great works of art and also a BIG thank you to our loyal Ambassadors, who continue to support the good work we do in helping to make a real difference to the lives of physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged children across the British Isles.
