The lunch was to highlight the work of the charity over its twenty-five year history with a view to looking forward to the next twenty-five years. Barry Cryer, a speaker who has entertained at Spoon events over the past 25 years aptly had the crowd in stitches.
This was followed by a panel discussion with stalwart Spoon supporters, David Trick, Ed Stewards and Hugo McNeil (seen here at left).
During the lunch there was a raffle with prizes ranging from a Panasonic flat screen television to weekend breaks both in boutique bed and breakfasts as well as top hotels.
Bidders were pitted against each other in the hotly contested the auction afterwards, enthusiastically raising the stakes for items ranging from golf for four at the Branston Golf Club to a dinner for eight at Motcombs. TNT, long-time supporter of Wooden Spoon, were the main sponsors of the event, which hoped to raise approximately £20,000.
The three-course lunch was concluded with rousing songs from leading UK tenor Martin Toal (and accompanied on several songs by Spoon founder Fred Hucker, as seen at left).
Martin was accompanied on the day by violinist Elspeth Hanson who just two weeks earlier was seen with the likes of David Beckham and Leona Lewis on top of the red bus at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
Spoon is overjoyed to have reached 25 years and looks forward to another 25 years of fun whilst fundraising for disadvantaged children and young people across the U.K. To check the availability of Martin Toal and/or Elspeth Hanson, visit http://www.martintoal.com/ or call 0780 308 3932
