On a cold and windswept day in the East Riding, Spoon committee members were invited to the "topping out" ceremony at the Hessle Rd church Hull on Monday 30th March. Yorkshire Spoon were delighted to commit £40,000 towards the provision of a Wooden Spoon Cafe that will soon be part of the new youth centre.
The plan is the brainchild of the Reverend Michael Hills who has worked tirelessly for the youth of this deprived area of Hull. The whole centre will include a sports hall, changing rooms, listening areas, quiet areas and a small library.

This shows the considerable size of the extension to the rear of the church.
From the initial building development it was difficult to imagine the finished article but we're promised that the official opening is planned for the year's end and so all power to the builders' elbows! It is hoped that this project will assist the newly formed Hull committee focus on this project when they raise funds at their ball in September. In addition the Yorkshire rugby clubs' golf day will also take place in the region thus giving local rugby club golfers a chance to contribute.

Unable to use a foundation stone the Reverend Hill and Neil Colthrop use a "Blank plank" instead! We got the drift!
The Reverend Hills was delighted with progress and invited all visitors in for refreshments which were most welcome. It was here that Richard Tully (Yorkshire Spoon treasure) met his boyhood Hull FC hero Johnny Whiteley. With over 600 appearances for Hull FC Johnny is a local hero and inductee to the Hull FC Hall of fame. Johnny is delighted to be associated with the project and like the rest of us looks forward to the opening ceremony later in the year.
