Re Engage with the Rhinos started in early November and, to date, has worked with 50 young people from the "Burley Park Pupil Referral Unit" and "Roundhay High School".
The project is providing the youngsters with high quality opportunities to work towards completion of their Junior Sports Leaders Award, Rugby League Leaders Award, first aid certificate and activities designed to improve their confidence and self esteem. Run in partnership with Education Leeds, West Yorkshire Police and with delivery from Re Engage Officer Dave Downes, the project is achieving genuine success and has established a framework for continuing success throughout its proposed three year lifespan.
Leeds Rugby Foundation is delighted to be working in partnership with the Wooden Spoon and their Spoon Community Rugby programme on our Re Engage with the Rhinos project. There is an often quoted saying, "if you find a job that you love, you'll never do a days work in your life"! This has definitely been true of the opportunities that I was presented with throughout my playing career and I'm extremely grateful to all the people, my family, friends, coaches and teammates who provided me with the support and guidance to identify the opportunities and help me to take them forward. Many of the young people who attend the Foundation's Re Engage project just don't have the luxury of this kind of support. For them, life can often be a series of disappointments, rejections and hardships that ultimately distract them away from reaching their potential. The Re Engage project aims to provide opportunities to help youngsters see what's out there for them, if they work hard, and find something they love"!
