Wooden Spoon Yorkshire was delighted to fund the £18,500 project at the Elm Grove centre Heckmondwike.
The centre caters for a small number of profoundly disabled children who hitherto had not had any modern playground facilities. Due to the generosity of members, sponsors and supporters Wooden Spoon were able to supply some extensive state of the art playground equipment which was an instant success with all of the children and staff!
Honorary president, John Bentley made a great job of cutting the ribbon and officially opening the playground. Afterwards, staff, children, parents and committee members enjoyed a fine buffet prepared by the centre. All took the opportunity to try out the new equipment and a huge thumbs - up was given to the range and quality of the facilities.
Much of the equipment was geared towards wheelchair users and they were strapped in for a safe and enjoyable ride. Many of the children demonstrated the versatility of the equipment which was both robust and well thought out.
Spoon Yorkshire would like to convey their thanks to all the staff and children at Elm Grove for making the day so enjoyable.
