Ambassadors Paul Greenslade from Vitol and David Jones of Statoil, joined forces to produce the most stunning round of Golf ever seen by Spoon, raising the spectacular amount of over £100,000!
Thursday October 7th brought the most glorious sunshine to the exclusive, manicured lawns of St George's Hill where 17 teams, slick operators from the Gas and Oil world, gathered together to tee off for an exciting round of golf. So determined were they to strike oil for Spoon that players had flown in from all over the world to take part in this prestigious day.
On arrival, golfers were delighted to learn that they would be joined on the course by Spoon's Lead Ambassador Jason Leonard, and fellow Ambassador Ian Robertson, the latter as usual keeping all amused with his anecdotes and hilarious stories. Players enjoyed a great round of golf on one of the most sought after courses in the UK.
The course was in glorious condition and players were blessed with a warm October day with a breeze that made approach shots tricky, however Lead Ambassador Jason Leonard nearly sank his tee shot at the 8th, finishing a couple of inches away! John Carr hit the ball a country mile to win the longest drive at the 5th. The team competition was fiercely fought and the winners of the Jasper Conran Waterford Crystal were:
• 1st - 88 points; Team Gavshon (Rod Gavshon, Kurt Rohner, Dick Bronks, Grant Needham) Prize: Wine goblets
• 2nd - 85 points; Team Casey (Paul Casey, Chris Molden, Graham Campbell, Paul Hopkirk) Prize: Champagne flutes
• 3rd - 84 points; Team Blue Gold (Dennis Crema, Tony Jansen, Bob Borrowman, Geoff Atterbury) Prize: Whiskey tumblers

After much endeavour out on the course, golfers enjoyed drinks on the terrace which was followed by a delicious lunch. This is when all the fundraising that had been planned during the last year came to fruition as friends, colleagues and clients, with their competitive natures, tried to out bid one another on some of the most valuable and fabulous auction lots which had been kindly donated by several of the players themselves. The generosity displayed was incredible and knew no bounds, some successful lots being returned to Spoon to be used again.
Ambassador Paul Greenslade commented: "It was a day when we remembered those young people all over the UK and Ireland who benefit greatly from the vital support 'Spoon' brings to them. My thanks to all friends, colleagues and clients who made this a fantastic fundraising day - the weather and quality of course was a bonus".
The whole day proved not only to be extremely enjoyable, but also very rewarding for all those who participated to raise so much money to benefit the young people and children who are in desperate need of our help. Without doubt it was a most magnificent day for Spoon and we owe a debt of gratitude to all who took part - in particular to Paul and David, for their vision and commitment, and without whom this day would not have been possible.
