Learn more about the major Challenge events Wooden Spoon has organised for the coming season
The weather was slightly inclement at the start but gradually improved throughout the day, this did not dampen the spirits of all the teams and a great day of golf was had by all, helped by several libations at the gamble hole and halfway house. The day was sponsered by Tamworth Audi and we had Club Clean in attendence
The winning teams were as follows.
1. Coventry Police. Dave Farrell (5) Phil Bird (6) Chris Bates (8) Rob Stokes (16)
2. The National Hunt Jockeys. Sam Thomas, Jodie Mogford and Alan O'keeffe
Wooden Spoon winners were a team from Broadstreet Rugby Club Kevin (Trussy) Truslove captain. Andy (Pickett) Scott. Dave (Combo) Cummings and Al Thomas (Not welsh Al Thomas). They also won the drinking games.
We were served a superb array of food and were entertained by our MC of the evening Mr Roger Dakin who like a mature wine improves with age.
This was also the inaugural year for the Andy FAZ Farrington trophy. Faz played with us last year but sadly that was his last game of golf and passed away in November. Faz played over 300 games for Coventry represented Warwickshire and the Midlands finishing as a stalwart of Broadstreet. He will be sadly missed but his old hooker mate Paul Ison did play in the golfshoes Faz had bought for his last game the previous year. So he was still with us.
Our fund raising was made from a bottle raffle.Gamble Hole. Auction prizes and fourballs in a fantastic table raffle that alone nearly raised £1000.
We had 17 fourballs donated from the length and breadth of the country and all the clubs will be personally thanked for there generosity.
Thanks to Sandra and Mike Eland for there help throughout the day. Sadly they have announced there retirement and this will be the last golf day they will attend for Warwickshire . Ian Holroyd Warwickshire Chairman presented Sandra with bouquet of flowers and Mike a bottle of Port and thanked them formally for there help to spoon over the years.
Special Thanks to TNT and Tom Bell who attended. Tamworth Audi and our smaller sponsors who always support us Paddy Carey of Carey's nightclub Coventry. Jim White of White metals of Ryton near Coventry. Neil Askew of Askew and associates the Quadrant Coventry.
We raised between 5-6k on the day. Thanks to all the teams.
