Amongst the stars of the two codes were Bev Risman and Ken Scotland, both 1959 British Lions in New Zealand, Will Greenwood, Kevin Morgan and Rhys Williams of more recent vintage and our own Ian Robertson. The League lads (and lasses!) did us proud, from Kath and Gary Hetherington, Paul Sculthorpe, Lee Briers, Mike Monaghan and Steve Hampson, to Eddie Hemmings, the authentic and authoritative voice of Rugby League on Sky Sports. The golfing star of the show was Cardiff Blues flanker, Mark Lewis, who knocked his ball round the Open Championship links in a sensational 69 shots off a scratch handicap.

Clearly, Mark was the individual winner, Blue Square, part of the Rank Group, were the best team on the day with 86 points, but the overall winners of the "Ryder Cup of Rugby Golf" were the Legends of Rugby League with 706 Points to 687. Eddie Hemmings was particularly pleased at the result, indeed, he confidently predicted it all day! We too were pleased to welcome Phil Clarke, also of Sky TV, to accept the trophy on behalf of the winners with a gracious and complimentary speech - now one-all in the Challenge Series!

It goes without saying that the Gala Dinner at Royal Birkdale that evening was a sumptuous occasion, with Ian Robertson on top form at the microphone and a most convivial coming together of representatives of two of the greatest team games in the world of sport. An immensely grateful word of thanks to all our sponsors on the day, with a particular mention to Martin James of Sports 360, who produced the magnificent programme for us free of charge.

Watch out all of you, because the immediate and unanimous consensus of opinion was that we must repeat the exercise at Royal Birkdale next year. Note the date in your diaries, please: Thursday, 23rd June, 2011.
