Players travelled from far and wide- Malcolm O'Kelly (who memorably asked the organisers if he could borrow a set of clubs for a 6' 10" left hander on the day before the competition...) and Shane Byrne, legends of both Ireland and the Lions journeyed with international referee Alan Lewis from Dublin; Wales too, provided almost half of the rugby celebrities involved and some of the most competitive golfers around, (former Cardiff Blues backrower being one under scratch and British Lions scrum half Gareth Cooper a robust 4), whilst England's various eras of success were represented by legends such as David Trick and world cup winners Andy Gomarsall and the indomitable Mark 'Ronnie' Regan. The 'senior tour' was also well represented and we were honoured to have one of the British and Irish Lions legends of 1971 present, Mike Roberts, the former Wales second row forward.

In the great words of Willie John McBride "Well it always matters greatly who's going to win, but not at all who has won', and the tournament was played in great spirit with some outstanding rounds were carded, not least by the eventual four ball.
The evening too, was a huge success. With silent auctions running hither and thither, live auctions under the wing of former England scrum half and world cup finalist, Pete Richards, the fund raising side went well and the both the banter and wine flowed.
On that note, Spoon would like to thank its sponsors, Barclays, and the Chairman, Head of UK Equity Capital Markets and Corporate Broking at Barclays , Jim Renwick, whose generosity make days like this possible, and the players themselves, who give up their time selflessly to support this great event. A big thank you also goes to
Martin Worrow, an ambassador at Wooden Spoon and Supreme Engraving for their generous donation of the winner's trophy.
See you next year!
