Quinnell Conquers Cornwall
The last week-end of January proved to be a busy time in Cornwall both for Spoon and a most welcome guest to the region, none other than former Wales and British Lion rugby legend, Scott Quinnell.

The £30,000 project is the second project completed by the region and staff and pupils alike were delighted to show off the modern teaching aid. Kim Robertson, the school principal, said: The room’s fantastic. We now have a facility to create any sort of environment we want.

Later that evening, the regional eighth annual dinner was held at The Hotel Bristol in Newquay. Following the success of previous dinners, the event was a sell-out and the 180 guests were royally regaled by Scott with tales taken from his playing career until the not-so-early hours. Regional chairman Andy Cox commented: It was a great night. Everyone had a huge amount of fun and we were able to raise about £4,000 for local, disadvantaged children. What more could anyone want?

After a day to recover, committee members then attended the Cornish Pirates game on Sunday where a mini-bus for the Pirates Learning Zone was formally handed over. Spoon was the beneficiary of the bucket collection at the game and thanks to the efforts of the clubs officials almost £900 was raised. By the end of the day, more than one of the regional stalwarts was beginning to feel the pace. It was a great week-end and one which again demonstrated Spoon’s almost unique ability, with the help of the sporting superstars, to reach out and change for the better, the lives of disadvantaged children.
