The home team managed a 12-8 win in their title chase to top the North Lancashire-Cumbria League, the win helped us to raise £2550 for Spoon with the club generously donating the proceeds from their Saturday match raffle. John Dewhurst and Richard Greenwood were on hand helping to spread the word about the ‘best kept secret in rugby’ and encourage over a hundred guests to support the Lancashire West Coast and Ribble Valley Wooden Spoon regions.
At the pre-match lunch Managing partner Alan Rowntree explained ‘ We have been celebrating the firm’s 125th Anniversary all year and wanted others to benefit from our last event. The Wooden Spoon was ideal because it is the only rugby based charity which supports disadvantaged children in the local community’. Members of staff at Waterworths also sold balloons to the guests which were launched prior to the kick-off. The owner of the balloon travelling the furthest will receive a cheque for £100. This was a partnership event in more ways than one with the Blackburn Club once again supporting Wooden Spoon along with Waterworths, one of their clients Line Mark (UK) Ltd and the many guests.
Our grateful thanks to everyone concerned.
