The fans, Mark Ley, Karl Whitty, Stuart Durrant and Gareth Johns, all of whom are employees of SA Brain, came up with the idea and completed 10,572 passes during their journey. All in all, over £6,000 was raised for Spoon. Richard Davies, Sales and Marketing Director explained ‘SA Brain chose Wooden Spoon as the company’s main charity at the end of last year and were impressed by how quickly the entire company embraced the cause. When The Longest Pass was mooted as an idea, we thought it was excellent and decided to do all we could to help.
Gareth Johns of the foursome said "We are delighted to be involved with Wooden Spoon. What we are doing is supporting disadvantaged kids that haven’t got anything – Spoon helps a wide range of children and a wide range of difficulties. Helping Spoon has made us feel really good, so thank you Spoon for that!" Bob Harris, National Co-ordinator of Spoon added "What the team has done is absolutely superb. Brains has been very supportive and the level of commitment from these men has been fantastic. They have raised a massive amount of money and we are very grateful". Over the same weekend, a viral version of the pass was started and over 1000 people participated, further raising the profile of this innovative event.
