 The first play area to be opened was at the Castle School in Cambridge. It was here that Spoon had contributed the funds to purchase an outdoor theatre. Once Geoff Morris, local resident and Chief Executive of Wooden Spoon, opened the theatre the children treated the audience to a delightful short play.
To witness the smiles on their faces reminded the Committee why they all work so hard to try to make a difference for these children and the staff who so ably look after them. Spoon helped raise a total of £35,000 for the three projects through various activities including their successful Annual Ball at Swynford Paddocks near Newmarket.
 A little later, the Committee were joined by their Honorary President, David Martin, Chairman of the Cambridge Rugby Union, who had just flown in the U.S. earlier that morning. David opened the playground at the Granta School in Linton. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying their newly equipped environment.
It was then onto Bury St Edmunds where Geoff cut the Spoon-coloured ribbons once again and unveiled the plaque in the Priory School playground. The Committee then joined the children for celebratory tea and cake followed by a short display of some of their artwork. This project is now overseen by the new Suffolk committee.
 At all three schools the most poignant feeling of the day had to be the incredible courage and determination displayed by the children to overcome their difficulties and not least the dedication and commitment of the three Head teachers and their staff.
It is days like these that emphasise the incredible worth of Wooden Spoon and its’ work.
