| After discussions initiated by Gordon Brown, Middlesex Chairman and Wasps VIP, Chilterns took responsibility for A “Spoon Day” held at the Wasps v Bath match on the 12th November. For this match Peter Scrivener, Commercial Director, gave Spoon the opportunity to do a ground bucket collection which raised £1127, hand out membership forms to ground ticket holders and box owners alike, present the Spoon mascot “Woody” to the crowd alongside “Stinger” – Wasps own mascot and put up 3 pitch-side boards giving Spoon visibility to all spectators. The Wasps commentator also gave a brief mention of the aims of Wooden Spoon at half-time.
The day was coordinated by a long-term Spoon supporter, Bill Hill, who only joined the Chilterns committee 2 months ago. Wasps are eager to promote Spoon to their supporters and have followed up on this successful promotional day by providing Shaun Edwards, the chief coach and record breaking Great Britain rugby league player, to open the current Chilterns project on November 29th. On that day the region will be opening a new sports hall at Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Sport for the Disabled. Wasps are also providing Spoon with the opportunity to sign up new members at their pre-match luncheon at Twickenham, prior to the 2nd South Africa match next Saturday, the 25th of November.
Regarding Wasps support, their community relations manager said “On behalf of the Community Team I offer a huge “thank you” in return for adding to our Match Day Experience. Woody was an excellent vehicle to promote your initiative to our young supporters and our team wearing Spoon ties really did complete the ‘Partnership’….as you said, a great touch by Scrivs and Gloria.”
