| The new extension was funded by a donation of £40,000 from the Somerset Branch of Wooden Spoon society which supports children and young people with learning difficulties in the region. The funds were used to build an extension which has created numerous new facilities including improved access for wheelchairs, two toilets and a hygiene changing area.
Commenting on the new extension Fiveways Headteacher Mark Collis said, “The very generous donation by the Wooden Spoon has helped the school dramatically improve its facilities for pupils between the ages of 16-19 years old. The new accessible through ramps means that pupils with physical difficulties can now work alongside their peers in these very practical educational environments which will be very beneficial for their future development.”
He continued, “We are thrilled with the results, which have surpassed our expectations and would like to thank all of those who have been involved with raising these funds. The improved facilities will benefit countless generations of pupils attending the school.”
Mark Hindley Commercial Director for Walon UK, is a member of the Wooden Spoon Somerset Committee and was delighted to attend the opening event and to view the new extension. He said, “It is great to see how the raised by Wooden Spoon’s many fundraising activities throughout the year, is used so effectively in the local community. This project at Fiveways will clearly benefit a large number of pupils at this school now and into the future.”
