The golf day was sponsored by Gerrard Investment Management with local firms kindly sponsoring the holes and donating auction and raffle prizes. As well as an 18 hole tournament there was a ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Nearest The Pin’ competition, along with a ‘Gamble Hole’ where competitors did a great job of sampling the free Bombardier beer but not such a great job of winning their bets!

A total of 23 teams turned out to compete against each other. The day began at 10.00am for the first competitors and anxious eyes were cast towards the sky as drizzle seemed to set in for the morning. But despite the weather at the start, remarkably the sun shone down for the rest of the day.

After the day’s golf, a delicious three course dinner was served followed by a raffle and auction. The overall winners were Savills from Manchester and Fran Cotton, ex England and British Lion player and the region’s President handed out the prizes for first, second and third place with wooden spoons going to the player’s who played the most golf!

The overall figure raised from the event going to Wooden Spoon is estimated at just over £5,500, which will be added to the £12,000 the year old committee have already raised in the last twelve months.

The region’s latest project is to fund a climbing wall at the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust at Millington near Lymm. The Charity offers free adventure breaks and activities to children who are disadvantaged by illness, disability and poverty, from all over the Northwest. The climbing wall will provide the children with much needed exercise and enjoyment whilst helping them to develop unique learning skills.

Charlie Womersley, Chairman for the region says “We would like to say thank you to all the teams and sponsors who supported us on our first annual golf day and to Prestbury Golf Club for helping make the day so enjoyable. A fantastic day was had by all and more importantly a great sum of money was raised for Spoon”.
