Rugby star Nick Baxter, the Pertemps Bees’ prolific try scorer, joined businessmen for a day of golf and an evening of entertainment at Aston Wood Golf Club, raising £5,500 for Spoon. Twenty teams of four competed for the right to represent Wooden Spoon’s West Midlands committee at the charity’s national golf final to be staged at Belton Woods Golf Club in September.

The winning team was led by Gareth Edwards, managing director of Edgbaston-based Pertemps Training, part of Pertemps People Development Group, a keen supporter of Wooden Spoon. An evening of entertainment included an auction of sporting memorabilia which helped boost the funds raised. Among those attending were Wooden Spoon chairman Roger Davies and Aston Wood Golf Club chairman Ken Heathcote, who was celebrating his birthday.  Everyone enjoyed themselves, including Stuart Lowe of Office Depot, Richard Brown of WBBS, and Ray Lowe and Nick Baxter, of Pertemps Bees who are seen in the photo above.

Phil Pemble, chairman of Wooden Spoon’s West Midlands committee, said: “Aston Wood was once again a fabulous venue for our corporate golf day. We raised a wonderful amount of money thanks to the generosity of all those that took part in the event. Our intention is to donate the money to Reynold’s Cross School for children with special needs, in Solihull. The children there are in desperate need of a new playground and we have joined forces with Shirley Lions to provide as much support to the project as we possibly can.”
