Disappointingly the Old Boys were unable to field a front row leading to uncontested scrums from the start. The quicker home side scored first providing the charity side with a much needed wake up call, and from a line out close to the opposition try line stand off Dan Eddie dummied and side stepped his way over. Eddie tagged on the extras to leave the half time scores level at 7 -7.
Stonyhurst started the second half the stronger and an excellent backs move allowed them to take a 12 – 7 lead, all points being scored by Joe Notter but this proved to be their last score as SpoonAAs dominated possession in the last half hour of the match scoring three further tries.
First, after the forwards had driven deep into the Stonyhurst 22m, scrum half and SpoonAAs captain Jon Swarbrigg nipped down the blind side and went over in the corner. Prop Ed Connell drove over to take SpoonAAs 17-12 ahead before Adam Lewis emerged from under a driving maul to claim a try at the posts. Eddie converting to give the SpoonAAs a deserved 24 – 12 victory.
