It was a great evening with a 60’s and 70’s theme. Nearly 200 revellers attended, enjoying the meal, auction, raffle and dancing into the night. The retro-themed menu of prawn cocktail, coq au vin and knickerbocker glory was also a great success. The raffle and auction were generously supported by all, with the evening ending with a raucous ‘60s & ‘70s disco where most people had a turn on the dance floor and revived their dance moves (some more rusty than others!) David Martin, Chairman of Shelford Rugby Club and our new Honorary President attended with his wife Katherine. They brought other members of Shelford Rugby Club, who gave a lot of support over the past year.
David’s friend, Bill King, very kindly agreed to be our auctioneer, as he works in the field at the locally well-known Cheffins auction house. He did a superb job raising a grand total of £3270. Mick Skinner who did our auction last year could relax with his friends this time. As always the Spoon CEO Geoff Morris and his wife, Suzanne who live in Burwell greatly enjoyed attending their ‘local’ Wooden Spoon region’s annual dinner. Geoff spoke to the audience and updated everyone about current projects within Wooden Spoon and even helped with the auction. Overall, the night was a great success and raised £8192.40 for local children at the Granta and Castle Special Schools in Cambridge.
