Huddersfield Golf Classic Funds New Playground
The staff and pupils of Longley School Huddersfield were both overjoyed and surprised to receive a cold call in the depths of winter offering them up to £12,000 if they could find something they needed for the children!

It didn't take them long to respond to this magical offer and they thought that their current playground facilities could do with a boost. No sooner said than done and a new playground was commissioned.

Was there a catch though? Well, Yorkshire Spoon took a gamble and trusted that their 'one-off' golf day at Huddersfield Golf Club would raise enough funds to cover the cost of the playground. They needn't have worried!  The golf day on September 8th was blessed with wonderful weather and 26 teams set off with a shot gun start at 1.00pm. By the time the evening ended at 11.00pm the princely sum had been raised throughout the dinner from the raffle and auction the latter conducted by the wily charms of our comedian Charlie Hale who entertained us wonderfully!

Just for the record the completion was won by Solo Petroleum and the Wooden Spoons were presented to the losers on the day, Orrell Former Players. The real winners though were the children of Longley School who will see construction of their playground begin at half-term. Our photograph shows the Lady Captain, Jan McGill, Captain Martin Devey and honorary event chairman Mich Dearman brandishing their spoons before the event. All three are looking to attend the grand opening of the playground in due course.
