Yorkshire "Races" to celebrate Ripon Race Day!
This event is by tradition Yorkshire’s Ladies Day. A near “full – house” of 86 guests attended the Rowels Box for the 12th annual renewal. For the third year running Skybet kindly sponsored a race in Spoon's name and their £1000 will be generously returned to us by the racecourse owners, the Hutchinson family.

Under starters orders at 11.45 the event was “off” at 12.30 when Richard Tully, seen above in Spoon tie, gave a Regional welcome and introduced 4 of Yorkshire’s finest personalities in attendance to help proceedings. In running order they were John Morgan MBE (MC and Tipster) Jack Berry MBE (Tipster) David Oxley CBE (Tosser!) Dickie Bird MBE (reserve Tosser!)” Tossers” were required for the “heads and tails” (mares and stallions in our case!)

Graven Gilpin (CGC Events ) provided their usual excellent lunch before the first race – “The Skybet.com Wooden Spoon Charity Selling Stakes”. Messrs Berry, Morgan, Tully, and Tim Reynolds (Skybet) visited the paddock to judge the best turned out horse. After less than one minute in the obscuring rain we quickly concurred with Jack - and Skybet’s £50 wet notes handed to the groom of Emma Told Lies. She was probably not the only one! The race winner? A “tosser”- Spinning Game at 8/1!

The “high” of the day occurred when Tagula Sunrise won the 4th Race. Half owned by David Knaggs ( Yorkshire Committee member ), it was backed by all and raised the roof. Despite the fact the sun never did shine, two more winning tips from Messrs Berry & Morgan maintained good cheer and atmosphere to our closing after race fundraising.
