This is the third year that Spoon has supported this initiative in partnership with the RFU through their community rugby department. The event is managed by Stuart Urquhart and his colleagues who visit all the schools prior to this festival in order to deliver coaching to the children and support the teaching staff. Many of these SEN schools also participate in their own sports tournaments at their Regional Youth Games.
This year there was a very high standard of rugby with many of the children competent of playing rugby at their local clubs junior section. There are several reasons behind this festival. We hope to encourage young people to 'play sport' and join a rugby club where they can enjoy an opportunity of 'social inclusion in the community'. Creating such pathways are important for these youngsters, many who are in the 'at risk' catagory in their community.
