Councillor Samuel, Deputy Leader of the Borough of Richmond was also there, along with the Brian Burgess, President of the local Rotarians, who presented a certificate for the outstanding effort and work the teachers and staff put into the school.
This very active school looks after approximately fifty children with special needs. It is led by an enthusiastic head-teacher, Ann Nanasi, with great support from the staff, parents and Governors. Representatives of both parents and Governors were at the opening.
John Inverdale and the other guests took part in a special assembly with the children before John officially opened the Sensory Room. A demonstration of the room in action was then given, which left no-one in any doubt of the benefit it will give. Strathmore also has a respite centre attached to the school which, along with the Sensory Room, is available during evenings and weekends, ensuring that Spoon money will have provided a really worthwhile facility reaching a lot of children.
Both children and adults were pleased to have seen John Inverdale and expressed their thanks for the time he took at the school and with the children.
