| At 6.30pm sharp the gates opened & a convoy of cars arrived at the picnic area, followed by a scene reminiscent of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday, as almost the entire audience laden with chairs tables, hampers & coolers rushed or sauntered to find the best spot; a view of the lake or in the shade. There was a welcome drink with Spoon Kent Committee and then Champagne corks popped & the picnic ritual began while eager ducks waddled around hoping for a share.
At 7.50pm at the sound of a bell, picnics were hastily cleared & stowed in cars. People made the short walk down through the grounds to the theatre (loo stop on the way) to be seated with a view of the lake as a backdrop to the stage and at 8.00pm the Geoff Eales Trio opened with S'wonderful. What followed was a most enjoyable evening of 'The Magic of Gershwin'. Talented singer Lee Gibson took us on a nostalgic journey through his short life in words & song.
In brief, it was a fine evening for 'wine, weather & song' plus raising money for the Wooden Soon! Here's to next year.
