The Central Band of the Royal Air Force led the festivities and was supported by the West End and Broadway singers of Alfred Boe and Thora Kerr.
The concert offered something for everyone and was a mix of popular big band and light classical music, dramatically culminating in a ten minute firework display to Sibelius’ Finlandia. Everyone enjoyed the ‘Last Night at the Proms’ atmosphere.
The event raised up to £15,000 for Chilterns Spoon and was principally sponsored by Systems Union, a Farmborough based software company. Paul Coleman, CEO of Systems Union enjoyed the night so much, they agreed to sponsor next year’s concert as well. John Guest International, the UK’s largest manufacturer of flexible plumbing products, also provided much appreciated sponsorship that made the night such a success.
Gib Hancock, longstanding senior Wooden Spoon volunteer, has been the organiser of the event for the last 12 years. Everyone at Spoon is very grateful to Gib for his tremendously loyal support over many years.
Chilterns Spoon looks forward to many events in the future that are as enjoyable as this magical evening and want to thank all those who attended the event for the support they offer disadvantaged children across in the Chilterns region.
