The Region donated just over £11,000 to The Wingate Centre in Wrenbury, Nantwich for a ‘Trim Trail’ outdoor circuit track and wheelchair hoist. The primary purpose of the centre is to enrich the lives of children and young people with disabilities, both locally and nationally, through the provision of specialist residential accommodation and specialist sport recreational facilities. The centre is equipped to deal with children who have multiple and profound disabilities.
The Wingate Special Children’s Trust is a stand alone Charity, receiving no Governmental support, and so relies heavily on its own fundraising activities and the support of grant giving trusts, voluntary organisations and individuals.
The Right Honourable Edward Timpson MP was on hand to officially open the ‘Trim Trail’ at The Wingate Centre on Thursday 19 March 2009.

The second project at the The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a traversing wall was opened by rugby legend, Fran Cotton on 1st April. The wall was funded by a £25,000 donation from the Region. The activity spans two walls of the 250sq metre Sports Hall at the Farm and provides an exciting climbing activity for children of all ages and abilities. The wall has been painted in a colourful jungle theme and has quickly become a favourite with the children visiting the Adventure Farm.
The Children’s Adventure Farm provides holidays and day trips for disabled, terminally ill and disadvantaged children from all over the North West. Children who are in desperate need of a break come to the Cheshire base for free activity breaks. The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust is a charity that helps approximately 3,000 children each year.
Paul Farrington, Chief Executive said “We can’t thank Wooden Spoon enough for their amazing support. The traversing wall is an amazing piece of equipment, it gives so many children a wonderful sense of achievement, boosting their self-confidence and encouraging them to try activities they would never have thought possible. It’s also great fun, the kids really love it. The smiles on their faces are all the proof we need that activities such as this really do make a huge difference.”
