The Vets are looking to go one better after appearing in the final for the last two years but on both occasions being piped at the post. The Vets team comprises players with a wide range of representative honours.
The Wooden Spoon Women won the title last year and will be competing against very tough opposition in the form of the England, Canadian and USA National. Spoon Women will have to beat all three teams if they want to emulate the success of last year. Spoon player/Coach Susie Appleby will be leading the young representative team comprising players from Scotland, England and Wales in their bid to retain the crown. "Winning last year was the highlight of my playing career. Having the chance to play with such talent from other countries and perform against some of the best in the women's game in front of 40,000 people is an amazing experience. It is a great honour to be asked to play for Spoon again in Dubai and this year the team wants to ensure that Wooden Spoon is a great success, both on the field as we strive to win and off the field as we raise funds for Spoon."
The teams have sourced sponsorship and made personal donations so that they can attend this prestigious event, raise funds for Spoon and most importantly raise the profile of the charity in front of 40,000 rugby mad fans. This year Spoon Rugby is grateful to receive support from Saudex Global, Coutts Bank, DHL, Danny Sacco and Kukri.
Wooden Spoon wish all the teams the greatest success and look forward to reporting on the tournament over the coming week.
