Team Devon’s Honorary President, Danny Grewcock MBE and Wooden Spoon founder and life President, Peter Scott and his wife Sheila (seen at left) joined 140 Wooden Spoon members, supporters and guests  to enjoy an evening of sumptuous food, entertainment and dancing.  Also joining them were: MP for North Devon, Nick Harvey and his wife Kate,  the official England Mascot, Peter Cross, and Team Devon’s Chairman, Bruce Priday and his wife Trudy.

Ex Wales and Cardiff player, Simon Hill ‘kicked off’ the entertainment with a brief but amusing talk about his life as an ex rugby player who is now a Dentist! This was followed by special ‘Thank You’ presentations being made by Peter Scott, to: Zena Brenchley, Zena Burland, Martin Neil, Chris Brown and Francesca Gubb for their contributions over the last five years to Wooden Spoon in North Devon. Also a highlight of the evening was the Auction which attracted much interest and rapid bidding for items such as a Garry Sobers, signed cricket bat and a package to attend Cardiff v Leicester with Simon Hill.

As well as being the 5th North Devon Dinner organised by Paul Jewels, this year the Dinner is also one of 25 events being organised by Team Devon to celebrate 25 years of the Wooden Spoon.  Team Devon is one of the 43 regional divisions of Wooden Spoon and they are proud to be the most successful region in raising funds for the children of the county who are disadvantaged, mentally, physically or socially. This evening of celebration in honour of the Wooden Spoon’s success was complemented by musical entertainment from Milli Taylor and Amy Newton, and dancing into the early hours with Soul Agency.
