Team Devon Wooden Spoon celebrated the milestone locally by gathering members together at Sandy Park, Exeter, for an evening of good food, company and entertainment to celebrate 25 years of Wooden Spoon ‘Stirring Smiles’ for disadvantaged children. The event was one of the 25 events Team Devon has planned for the year. Team Devon, one of 43 regional divisions of Wooden Spoon, is the most successful region in raising funds for the children of the county who are disadvantaged socially, mentally or physically.
Commenting on the success of Wooden Spoon across the British Isles and Eire, Team Devon Chairman, Bruce Priday said: “When the Wooden Spoon was first talked about its founders hoped and believed that it would grow to become an extremely successful and active fund raising charity. However, they could never have dreamed that 25 years on, £14 million would have been raised to help and assist no less than 273 projects. In Devon just under £700,000 has been raised and 14 projects supported. What an amazing achievement. Of course, this would not have been possible without the generosity and commitment shown by all who support Wooden Spoon and the sterling work of my committee. Together we have managed to produce and see many ‘Stirring Smiles’.
