The Manchester & Cheshire Region of the Wooden Spoon charity held their third annual golf day on Thursday 31st July at Prestbury Golf Club.
As well as an 18 hole tournament there was a ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Nearest The Pin’ competition, together with a ‘Gamble Hole’ where competitors could place a bet on their skill to get on the green with as fewer shots as possible.
The event raised funds for Wooden Spoon. Twenty-one teams of four took part with an invitation Wooden Spoon team taking first prize, with Tushingham Moore and Riskworks International coming second and third respectively.
Wooden spoons also went to the player’s who played the most golf! The winners will now have the chance to play in the final of the Wooden Spoon Golf Challenge in Chepstow on 26 September.
S teve Hanley, ex-Sale Sharks player, took part playing in the Wooden Spoon team and handed out the prizes. Steve is in his testimonial year and has chosen Wooden Spoon as one of his nominated charities. The overall figure raised from the event going to Wooden Spoon is estimated at just over £3,000 which will be added to the money the committee have already raised in the last twelve months and will spend on their next local project.
Charlie Womersley, Chairman for the local Wooden Spoon region says “We would like to say thank you to all the teams and sponsors who supported us on our third annual golf day and to Prestbury Golf Club for helping make the day so successful. A fantastic day was had by all and more importantly a great sum of money was raised for Wooden Spoon”.
