photo by Simon BryantOver 200 of the Duchy’s great and good, including Honorary President Martin Haag, crammed into the banqueting room for an evening of rare entertainment. Sponsor Steve Skinner, of Skinner’s Brewery, brought a “lady” of robust proportions with him namely, Miss Betty Stoggs, (seen above) who, by something less than complete coincidence, shares her name with one of the Brewery’s finest ales. And like her liquid namesake, she went down a treat.

Graham Rowntree next regaled the audience with tales from his playing days. A member of the infamous ABC club (and when it comes to his ears, this must stand for Already Been Chewed) Graham was happy to take questions and even endured a tutorial from former members of Perranporth RFC’s front row on unwritten scrummaging techniques. The evening raised over £5,000 and saw the introduction of Kevin Oliver as the new chairman. The region’s treasurer, David Pennington, who stood down after the event, was thanked for his 9 years of dedicated service.
