| Victory at Giggleswick for the Spoon A-As |

| Wooden Spoon Anti-Assassins played Old Giggleswickians at Giggleswick School on Sunday 21st October, their second game of the season and came out winners again after a great battle between the two sides. |

As at Sedbergh in September for the first game of the season, another gloriously sunny day in the Pennines saw two sides, who obviously didn’t know each other too well, certainly at the start, do their utmost to play an open, entertaining game on a splendidly prepared surface, before a reasonably responsive crowd. The result was 70 minutes or so of almost seven-a-side football – huge amounts of endeavour, little thought of defence, plenty of good and some indifferent handling, the odd fracas (with one team member saying to his mate, “Hey up, fella, this is Sunday, no fighting on Sundays!”), and all controlled in the right spirit (with the two captains being encouraged to give a brief 'rest' to their players rather than showing any cards) by Stephen Halliday, whom we salute for making the journey.
For the Wooden Spoon Anti-Assassins, James Bramhall scored two tries, Sean Hannah once – so three for the wingers, Mark Pease one and Chris Wearmouth one (just as well he did, as he had spent some time earlier trying to enable the Old Boys to score!). Again as at Sedbergh, the Wooden Spooon A-As did just about enough up front, in spite of Dave Muckalt’s full blooded endeavours for the home side, who contributed two tries. There were no attempts to kick penalty goals.
Once more, it was obvious that both sides wanted to win, but to do so whilst ensuring that there was fun for all in true A-A spirit.
Our thanks go to David Muckalt, his charming wife and others from the immediate vicinity for preparing some scrumptious pie and peas which ensured the ‘Inner Man’ was well looked after. Thank you, girls, greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the players who turned out to play this Charity match.
