| The event was held in the prestigious Desert Orchid Suite. After a welcome and introduction by David Jackson, the Surrey Chairman, Mike Cattermole, the Channel 4 racing expert, offered his suggestions on which horses to back in each of the seven races. A three course meal was served during the evening (delicious lamb shank) and the ticket price also included a free bar, so all those present had every incentive to spend their money, not only on the betting, either on the Tote within the room or with the on-course bookies just outside, but in supporting the raffle and bidding in the silent auction.
We would like to particularly thank our sponsors -Miles Commercial and Mansard Homes, each of whom brought many guests - the former celebrating the 60th birthday of Peter Bromwich (seen in the enclosure above) by naming the second race in his honour. A most enjoyable evening was had by all; lots of Smiles were Raised as well as over £5,000 towards our charitable funds.
