While there may not be too many smiles for England Rugby fans at present, Wooden Spoon, stirred some smiles in Northampton today as the local region presented a Freedom Vehicle, specially converted to carry wheelchairs to Northgate School in Northampton.
Ben Cohen, former Saints player, and a Rugby World Cup winner in 2003 handed over the keys to Shez Webb, headmistress and the children of Northgate supported by regional chairman Tony Galloni and Phillip Blunden one of the Trustees of Wooden Spoon.
Tony said, “This our first project to hand over in the region. Northgate School needed a vehicle to enable their growing number of wheelchair pupils to be able to enjoy classes and activities outside school and especially to be able to enjoy these alongside their classmates. Spoon stepped in and the local committee recommended to the Trustees that the £16,000 vehicle would help tremendously”.
Shez Webb, Headmistress at Northgate said, “this means so much for us as our minibuses were unsuitable for children in wheelchairs. Now Wooden Spoon have made it possible for those pupils to enjoy activities outside of school fully and we already have plans to use the vehicle for a wide range of activities. The vehicle even comes complete with it’s own Teddy Wooden Spoon mascot!”
