| There is no reason now for rugby lovers to get "the hump" at Lodge Farm Primary School in Stevenage. Sarrie the Camel, the mascot for Saracens, was at the school as the Guinness Premiership club started their community coaching last Wednesday. Sarrie was challenged to raise £5000 by Wooden Spoon and for every penny raised, Wooden Spoon match-funded the amount up to £5000. This money has been given back to the Saracens to fund coaching initiatives in the region with schools who have had little or no contacat with the popular sport. Gordon Banks, community manager at Saracens Rugby, said “Thanks to the money that Sarrie and Wooden Spoon have raised, we will be able to introduce many more local children to rugby”
Roy Campbell, chair of the Wooden Spoon Hertfordshire region, added “Wooden Spoon has been working with disadvantaged children for the last 24 years and in that time has donated over £15 million to a huge range of projects. Teaming up with Sarrie was a great opportunity for us to contribute even more to the community and work closely with Saracens Rugby Club. The club is very well placed to identify and respond to coaching needs it the local area and we are very proud to be supporting them. And who knows, maybe one of the children coached by us will be the next Kyran Bracken!”
