This year there were 19 teams competing and fortunately the weather was kind to us with the sun even making a brief appearance. The teams set off around the impressive course and had a shotgun start. There was a chance to win or lose on the gamble hole on the 9th.
Then the golfers could either drown their sorrows or have a celebratory drink at the Halfway House on the 10th tee.
After the golf everyone had a well deserved drink in the clubhouse bar and all the players received a photo of their team as a memento of the day. Then it was time for the 3 course dinner which was superb.
During the meal there was a raffle and a silent auction for some fantastic prizes including 2 tickets to England vs USA and a day behind the scenes at Channel 4 Racing.
After dinner entertainment was provided by the comic Gary Marshall. Finally there was the presentation of the golf prizes with Pat McKeown’s team winning for a second year in a row. The team consisted of Pat McKeown and 3 National Hunt Jockey's- Sam Thomas, Jodie Mogford and Ollie McPhail (all seen above) who are now going through to the National Spoon Finals at St Pierre, Chepstow.
Our chairman Ian Holroyd’s team (seen at left) unfortunately ‘played the most golf’ and were presented with the wooden spoons! All in all it was a fantastic day and over £3,000 was raised to go towards our next project at Exhall Grange.
Many thanks to all the teams that participated on the day and to those who made such generous donations. Thanks also to the staff at Maxstoke Park for helping to make the whole day run smoothly.
