A host of sporting celebrities were present as World Cup winning hero Martin Johnson led a Wooden Spoon cricket XI including six of the victorious 2003 team, against the world renowned Bunbury Cricket Club, captained by the charismatic David English. Before playing the 30 over match, the players joined title sponsors the Cassidy Group and other VIP guests for a fantastic summer lunch in the grand marquee.

The Bunbury team lead from the outset with England cricket legend Graham Hick, top scoring with 89 runs and Great Britain athlete, Du’aine Ladejo testing the rugby players with one or two pacey deliveries. The Spoon team had their moments with England’s most capped player of all time, Jason Leonard bowling out former England Cricket Captain, Chris Cowdrey and Leicester and England back row, Lewis Moody taking a brilliant catch in the field. The game was played in fantastic spirit with both sides enjoying the afternoon thanks partly to a rare appearance from the sunshine.

"The players and their families have really enjoyed today. It’s been great to catch up with old friends, play some sport and support such worthy charities in the process. Of course we are disappointed that we didn’t win the match but there is always next year!"  Warwickshire Wooden Spoon representative Jai Purewal added,  "As rugby's charity it’s important that we build on our relationship with the town, the school and the inhabitants of Rugby. We have all had a great day, the sun shone, the crowds came and everyone got to see their favourite sporting stars. Thank you to everyone who has made this day very special, especially the players who have all given up their Saturday freely to help support the charities."

During the day TNT hosted a children's tea party for children from some of the projects that Spoon has supported from around the country. TNT were celebrating their record donation to Spoon of more that £300,000 in 2007 that has taken their total fundraising in the last 10 years to an incredible £2M. Through out the day players joined in the fun with the children making it a very special day for everyone. No ALT tag specified
Coventry Kombat breakers, who recently featured on TV's 'Britain's Got Talent' entertained the crowds during the cricket tea break much to everyone's delight and stayed to talk to the children at the TNT party after their performance, putting a smile on many faces to round off a perfect day. Wooden Spoon proceeds from the event are going towards funding a much need specialist Toy Library at Exhall Grange School and Science College in Coventry. The centre will provide hundreds of families across Coventry and Warwickshire with access to specialist toys and equipment that would otherwise be too expensive.
