Bath Rugby Club were challenged to raise £5,000 by the Wooden Spoon and for every penny they raised, Wooden Spoon match-funded the amount up to £5,000. This money has been given back to the Bath Rugby Community Foundation to fund coaching initiatives in local primary schools in and around the Bath area. Ken Trowbridge from the Wooden Spoon came along to witness first hand all of the fun and excitement that his charity has provided. Simon Rumbles of the Bath Rugby Community Foundation said about the morning: “It was great to see the kids from Widcombe enjoying themselves with all their new kit that had been kindly supplied by the Wooden Spoon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ken and the rest of the Wooden Spoon for their generosity in this programme and we look forward to working with them closely over the coming years”

The charity provided the school with branded TAG Rugby equipment to encourage continued involvement with the sport. Dave Cockerell, Chairman of Wooden Spoon’s Bath region, commented: “Wooden Spoon has been working with disadvantaged children for the last 24 years and in that time has donated over £15 million to a huge range of projects.  Teaming up with the team at Bath was a great opportunity for us to contribute to the community and work closely with the Rugby Club. The Club is very well placed to identify and respond to coaching needs in the local area and we are very proud to be supporting them – and who knows, maybe one of the children coached by us will be the next Jonny Wilkinson!”
