Join in the fun at the Warwickshire Celebrity Cricket Match - July 14th
The Cassidy Group Martin Johnson Celebrity Cricket Match, being organised by Warwickshire Spoon will take place on Saturday 14 July 2007 at Rugby School, Rugby. Johnson will captain a cricket XI made up of a number of the 2003 World Cup winning rugby players as they take on the world famous Bunbury’s cricket team, at the very place where William Webb Ellis first picked up the ball and created the game of rugby.

The event is being run by Wooden Spoon Warwickshire Region who will donate their share of the proceeds to Exhall Grange School, Coventry, to fund a much needed Toy Library facility that will enable hundreds of families across the County to access specialist toys to help their children’s development.

Some 300 VIP guests will join the event’s main sponsors, the Cassidy Group, to enjoy a fundraising lunch on the Close at Rugby School before the cricket action gets underway. When asked if he was looking forward to the day, Johnson said,

"I was delighted when Wooden Spoon approached me to captain a Rugby XI to play against the legendary Bunbury's cricket team this summer. I actually played for the Bunbury's last August and had a fantastic and very memorable day, of which I won't bore you, but it's along the lines of me bowling out Graham Gooch!

"To be involved again and to lead some of the 2003 world cup winning boys out on to the field again, almost four years on is truly an honour for me.

"The match, which is being held at Rugby School, with all proceeds going to charity, will be a fantastic, fun and great sporting occasion, and one for the whole family to enjoy.

“David English, the Bunbury's founder does a tremendous job in organising celebrity cricket matches around the UK and raising monies to help many different charities, so I'm delighted that Wooden Spoon, who I have supported for many years will be the beneficiaries on the day along with the English Schools Cricket Association."

Bunbury Cricket Club is the world's most famous celebrity team and often fields a maverick team that has in the past comprised, players such as Eric Clapton, Sir Viv Richards, Elton John, Ian Botham, Phil Collins, Lawrence Dallaglio, Ian Wright, Brian Lara, Sam Fox, Alec Stewart, Joanna Lumley, Audley Harrison, Shane Warne, Bill Wyman, Rory Bremner, Graham Gooch, Jamie Theakston, The Bee Gees, Glenn McGrath, Andy Flintoff and Gary Lineker.

VIP guests will enjoy welcome drinks followed by a fantastic four course lunch from 11.30pm, cricket from 2.30pm, followed by a pig roast to end the day’s events. Spectators are welcome, entry by donation - numbers limited so come along early to avoid disappointment.
